Prof. Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Naimi, Chairman of DICID, received Mrs. Navin Kumar, First Political Secretary of the Singaporean Embassy to Doha on Tuesday morning, September 15, 2020.

The meeting began with Dr. Al-Naimi who welcomed Mrs. Kumar and expressed his appreciation by her visit, especially in light of the distinguished relations between the State of Singapore and Qatar. For her part, Ms. Kumar affirmed her keenness to visit the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue. She touched upon on the center’s key role in spreading core religious values and in promoting a culture of interfaith dialogue in order to achieve peaceful coexistence among its adherents, as well as praising the center’s fruitful contributions at the international level.

During his speech, Dr. Al-Naimi discussed the possibility of collaborating on the Adyan Magazine for dialogue with His Excellency the Minister of Health in the State of Singapore, in the editorial of its fourteenth issue, “Religions and Confronting Epidemics and Diseases”. This collaboration is in the center’s recognition of the excellence shown by the State of Singapore when dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. Their rapid precautionary measures controlled the epidemic early on from its spread, significantly diminishing numbers in Singapore. Mrs. Kumar received an official letter from the center regarding this and gladly expressed its deliverance to His Excellency the Minister of Health.

Dr. Al-Nuaimi also touched on the center’s various activities, on the local and international levels, and stated at the local level that the center regularly organizes training courses for students and teachers. With the aim of training in dialogue and communication skills with followers of different religions and cultures, the center also organizes educational lectures and round tables for the communities residing in Qatar, in addition to the “Adyan” magazine that is published in both, Arabic and English, periodicals, translated books, selected letters, and publications related to the center’s activities. Some are translated into European languages, including German, French and Spanish, as well as the books available at the center’s library, which is specialized in comparative studies of religions and dialogue.

At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Kumar expressed her deep satisfaction with this visit, and expressed her hope that it would be an opportunity to establish cooperation with the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue in magazines of common interest with the dialogue institutions in the State of Singapore.

It is worth noting that the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID) is considered one of the leading Arab centers in the field of interfaith dialogue, and is active in its field of specialization, in cooperation with all relevant institutions at the local, regional and international levels.
