His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, participated in the UNESCO initiative event entitled: Arab Regional launch of the UNESCO Framework for Enabling Intercultural Dialogue (ICD), held in Beirut on 30-31 May 2023.
UNESCO launched this initiative in partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace. A set of two recent knowledge produced by UNESCO propose a Conceptual and Technical Framework to create the enabling environment for intercultural dialogue.

The initiative hat taken place as resounding message of Agenda 2030 and its pledge to “Leave no one behind”; due to the fact that peaceful coexistence within and among societies has become imperative today, in light of the global rise of intolerance, violence, discrimination, inequality, extremism and xenophobia.
It should be noted that achieving peaceful coexistence depends upon everyone’s ability – notably that of youth and women – to gain and demonstrate intercultural competencies. None of our times’ multifaceted and complex challenges can be tackled effectively without inclusion.

In light of the above, the importance of the State of Qatar’s endeavours is evident in its institutions that support dialogue, and work to promote the principle of dialogue and spread a culture of acceptance and pluralism, which are supported by a number of educational and research institutions, the most important of which are the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue and the Qatari Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations.

One of the most important things that the initiative meeting has stressed is that intercultural dialogue is an excellent tool in the implementation of the UNESCO Roadmap Against Racism and Discrimination, and the associated Global Forum Against Racism and Discrimination (Mexico, Nov 2022) and to take action on prioritizing the fight against racism and discrimination to directory address the adverse impact on the most vulnerable populations.

Prof Ibrahim Al-Naimi stated in this regard: “DICID’s participation in such an important initiative is crucial, as the UNESCO Initiative for Enabling Intercultural Dialogue was launched to leverage the power of intercultural dialogue as a tool for addressing global challenges and supporting sustainable peace, conflict prevention and human rights promotion. We at DICID see the significant point of UNESCO in recognizing the potential of intercultural dialogue and identifying the knowledge gap on what conditions need to be in place to enable dialogue to work effectively.

DICID participated to identify the latest developments in the platforms of dialogue, alliance and coexistence, and to identify aspects of cooperation between partners involved in the dialogue to achieve common interests and visions, and in the hope of launching new creative activities that keep pace with the new, are consistent with the goals and vision of DICID, and are consistent with the culture of the local community and the principles of Islam.
