Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, in collaboration with Qatar Charity and Indian Youth Committee, organized a social event on Friday, 23, Ramadan 1444 AH, April 14, 2023 AD, at the Arab Sports Club, attended by two thousand (2000) people from the Indian community in Qatar. This activity was in line with the efforts of Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue to implement the principles of peaceful coexistence and pluralism, and to put into practice the theories of coexistence, dialogue, pluralism and the principles of cultural, civilizational, ethnic and religious diversity by using Quranic verses, hadiths, Sharia texts and Islamic teachings that support dialogue and acceptance of the other.

The event served to realize the vision and mission of Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue to promote pluralism, cultural diversity and community service. Prof. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Naimi said, “The month of Ramadan is a month of solidarity, cooperation and good deeds, and Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue is pleased to take advantage of opportunities and occasions to serve the community in all its spectrum, citizens and residents, and activate its principles, which derive from the customs of the hospitable Qatari society and from the Islamic heritage that calls for honoring the guest. Therefore, organizing this event is an embrace of the Indian community, some of whom live far away from their families, loved ones, country and community.”

The event was attended by two thousand people from the Indian community, the organizing committee, members of the Indian Youth Committee, and a group of staff from Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue, as well as Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, Head of Governance and Director of the Office of Strategic Planning at Qatar Charity and member of the DICID Board of Directors, who delivered DICID’s speech on behalf of Prof. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Naimi. Among those present were the guest of honor, who had traveled specially from India in coordination between DICID and the Indian Youth Committee, Mr. Suhaib Todi, Chairman of the Solidarity Youth Movement, Kerala-India, and a number of guests and dignitaries from the Indian community in Doha.

In his speech, Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi said, “We hope that this event and others like it will contribute to supporting and promoting a culture of dialogue and peaceful coexistence among expatriates in Qatar, activating religious values as a solution to humanitarian problems between people of different religions, eliminating misunderstandings between peoples and societies of different religions, and finally raising awareness of social commitment and the ability of religion to serve humanity.”

“We all know that the Indian community is one of the largest communities in Qatar, and even the largest in number, including fasting Muslims and members of other religions such as Christianity, Hinduism and others. Their gathering on this Islamic occasion is a demonstration of an aspect of Islamic behavior and ethics in relation to social and human life.” said Prof. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Naimi.

Prof. Al-Naimi added: “Qatar has always been a land of peace and harmony for its citizens and residents, and we pray to God Almighty to bless Qatar’s leadership and its people, and to help and bless them in this world and the hereafter.”
For his part, Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi said, “We believe we complement each other. Qatar Charity wants to help and support the needy around the world, because doing good and helping people is not limited to anyone.”

For his part, the Chairman of the Indian Youth Committee said, “The Indian Youth Committee organizes such Ramadan gatherings on religious occasions with the aim of spreading the culture of peaceful coexistence among the members of the Indian community belonging to different cultures and religions, especially among the young people who play an important role in leading the society, and believes that it plays an important role in consolidating the values of peaceful coexistence and tolerance among them.”

The events included a number of social activities and events, in addition to the Iftar, an annual custom adopted by Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue in collaboration with its partners Qatar Charity and the Indian Youth Committee, as these events represent a real opportunity to break down barriers and strengthen cohesion between members of the same community of the Indian community in Doha.
